We Meet Again!

Three weeks ago, I came across a guy performing some very risky stunts near Palisades Park in Santa Monica, including running on top of the narrow concrete railing along the ramp just above the Pacific Coast Highway. I took a series of impromptu shots of him then. Today, much to my surprise, he was there again, this time with photographers, working on a photo shoot. I still don’t know who he is and what he does, but took another series of shots, which I will put together in a slide show and post soon. For now, I’m using this shot of the Santa Monica Daredevil, with the ocean and today’s gorgeous sunset in background, as the 37th photo on my 365 project.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Scale

This week’s photo challenge asks us to play with scale to highlight size. In this photo taken in Sorrento, Italy, the contrast between the huge cruise liner and the two small boats around it caught my eye immediately.

And this next photo, also taken in Sorrento, illustrates how everything else is dwarfed by the always dauntingly present Mount Vesuvius…

They are every photographer’s nightmare (too tall to include in the shots, too many to be avoided). Their fronds are potentially dangerous (they can hurt people and animals, and damage cars when they fall). Some would like them gone forever, others want to keep and protect them. Love them or hate them, nothing is more L.A. than palm trees. I love them. They warm my heart…
