365/Day 261

Chicago Expo ~~

On our last day in Chicago, we visited the Navy Pier, where the International Exposition of Contemporary & Modern Art (Chicago Expo) is taking place this weekend. Hundreds of galleries are showing beautiful artwork by artists from all over the world. A fantastic exposition. Here’s just a glimpse. More later…

Chicago’s Posh Neighborhood ~~

Astor Street District is a Chicago Landmark, with 19th-century houses designed in a variety of historical revival styles, interspersed with apartment buildings and townhouses. The houses are primarily Queen Anne, Richardsonian Romanesque and the Georgian Revival styles. We walked around it this afternoon, before the rain came to put a damper on the perfect weather we’d gotten so far here in Chicago.

“The Bean” ~~

We are visiting Chicago for the first time this week and I am overwhelmed by the city’s natural and architectural beauty. I’ve always known it was a great city with impressive architecture, but it has exceeded my expectations. I’ve taken lots of photos but will save them for later. For today’s 365 project I’m posting images of one of the most interesting attractions of Chicago’s Millennium Park. The huge bean-shaped mirrored sculpture by artist Anish Kapoor, called “Cloud Gate” but mostly known as “The Bean.” It’s an impressive piece of art that is both interesting and fun. Too bad there are so many silly tourists around it taking pictures all the time. Ahem… 🙂
