Weekly Photo Challenge: From Lines to Patterns

This week’s Photo Challenge is “From Lines to Patterns.” I have quite a few shots that fit the category, so it’s been hard choosing. But here are some. I may post others later.

A Word A Week Challenge: Arch

The word “arch” sends me straight to Moorish architecture -nobody did arches like them- and to my photos from Spain, especially Andalusia.

Here are some arches from the Great Mosque of Cordoba and the Royal Alcazar of Seville. I’ve also added a couple of shots from the Casa de Pilatos, an Andalusian palace in Seville, which serves as the permanent residence of the Dukes of Medinaceli.

A Word A Week Challenge: Ornate

This week’s word challenge is “ornate.” The word made me thing immediately of Barcelona‘s beautiful –and very ornate– concert hall, the Palau de La Música Catalana. The Palau was designed in the Catalan modernista style by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, and built between 1905 and 1908. It is quite stunning and I only regret not having had time to attend a concert in that magnificent venue.

Cee’s Fun Photo Challenge: Houses

For this challenge I chose a set of colonial houses from Ouro Preto, a former colonial mining town, set on the mountains of the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil. Ouro Preto was a center for gold mining and prosperity in the 18th century, during Brazil’s Golden Ages. Its beautifully preserved Portuguese colonial architecture and quaint cobblestone streets earned it the designation of World Heritage by UNESCO.

The Brooklyn Bridge

I love the Brooklyn bridge. It’s so iconic. Always so crowded with tourists, locals, vendors, people walking, people in bikes, people talking loud, music playing, it gets a little crazy. It was difficult to take good photos with all that commotion. But once I looked up I was able to appreciate and capture its beauty and character. It was as if we were alone, me, the Brooklyn bridge, and the New York sky.
