Foggy Bay ~~
The first day of November brought not only the end of daylight savings time, but also a change to the weather pattern in the L.A. area. Santa Monica Bay was covered in dense fog this afternoon and, while the temperature was still mild, there was no sign of summer. The sun struggled against thick clouds and eventually made its way through for another pretty sunset. But it couldn’t upstage the fog that covered the entire bay. I kind of liked that…

Before, During, and After Sunset ~~
Santa Monica sunsets are beautiful and attract both locals and visitors daily. Just about ten minutes before sunset people start taking their spots along Palisades Park to get the best view and snap memorable photos. And the show is never disappointing. It starts with that beautiful golden light hitting the water and the sky turning all shades of pink, orange, and red, and continues way after the sun disappears into the water of behind he mountains, depending on the time of the year. It’s a spectacle that never gets old.

Frank Gehry Masterpieces~~
Frank Gehry, my favorite architect in the world, is a Canadian-born American architect who calls Los Angeles home. A number of his buildings, including his private residence in Santa Monica, and his most famous designs, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Lost Angeles and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, have become world-renowned attractions. Gehry’s recent and ongoing projects include a new Guggenheim facility in Abu Dhabi, the new Facebook headquarters in California, and a memorial to Dwight D. Eisenhower in Washington, D.C., slated to be constructed at the foot of Capitol Hill. This month, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has a special exhibit of Gehry’s body of work from the early 1960s—when he established his firm in Los Angeles—to the present, including his current work. I went to see it and, as always, was mesmerized by Gehry’s genius. He is more than an architect: he is an artist. His buildings are gigantic sculptures and, while not for everyone’s taste, they are at very least impressive. I am a huge fan and have photographed several of his buildings around L.A. and in other places. I’ll share some of them here along with their respective models, which are featured in the exhibit.

The Broad Museum~~
Yesterday I didn’t have time to post more about the The Broad (/broʊd/ US dict: brōd), a new contemporary art museum in Downtown, Los Angeles. The museum is named after philanthropist Eli Broad, who financed the $140 million building, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, to house part of his contemporary art collection.
