The Wallis Theater, in Beverly Hills.doors-web-dsc_0361 doors-web-dsc_0360doors-web-dsc_0370“Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and built in 1933, the Beverly Hills Post Office was constructed as a Work Projects Administration project. In 1993, after six decades of service, the Postal Service declared the historic building “surplus property,” and moved postal operations to a new facility. A group of concerned community leaders appealed to the City of Beverly Hills with hopes of preserving the landmark for its citizens. In 2004, Wallis Annenberg directed a $15 million lead grant from the Annenberg Foundation for the preservation of the historic Beverly Hills Post Office and its transformation into a new performing arts center.”

Giant Fig Tree~~ Beverly Hills has some of the most incredible trees you’ll ever see. That’s why it’s been recognized as Tree City USA. This giant Fig Tree is one of its treasures. It towers in all directions, with massive arterial roots that grow down from its branches. Today I spent some time there and shot a few photos of that and other trees. Will write about it in my soon to be revived “Discovering LA” blog.
