10.16.2016 – A terrible accident took the life of a friend on Sunday. I hadn’t seen her in years but we kept in touch through Facebook. She was so happy to be in California, traveling down the coast with her husband… We were probably going to see each other this coming week when they’d be in Santa Monica. I am so sad…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Local
What is “Local” when you live in the second-largest city in the United States, a sprawling metropolis with a population that includes people from more than 140 countries speaking 224 different languages? That’s Los Angeles, where I live. It’s hard to feel local. But I have found my spot, the place where I feel “local.” Palisades Park, in Santa Monica, is my hangout, my go-to place for long walks and many photographic endeavors. It’s a place where locals go to enjoy gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean while picnicking with family and friends, sunbathing, walking their dogs, reading, writing, or simply meditating. I have photographed it to exhaustion and will continue to do so for as long as I’m around.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Nostalgia
I rarely feel Nostalgia. I’m the kind of person who is always looking ahead, rarely looking back. Living in Southern California for the past five years, one of the rare occasions I feel a little nostalgic is at the beginning of Autumn. Everything about Autumn is magic and I especially miss the beautiful spectacle of leaves changing colors, something I took for granted in the 30 years I lived in the Washington, D.C. area. Here are some photos of our neighborhood, in the D.C. suburb of Potomac, MD. They were taken in mid-October, when the leaves were just beginning to change colors. Our house was the last one on the right, next to the woods. A very tranquil place, where families of deer often came to visit… Sigh…

On Top of The World
The One World Observatory, on the 102nd floor of the beautiful new One World Trade Center offers spectacular views of Lower Manhattan and Midtown. Thick glasses, harsh light, reflections, and hordes of people are not conducive to good photography, but I had a lot of fun, especially finding subjects and points of view where no one else would… 🙂
