As I searched for photos for this week’s Travel Theme, “Symbol,” I came across this one, where the American flag (a national symbol) is embracing a palm tree (one of Los Angeles’ unofficial symbols). I thought this was, well, symbolic… 🙂

The Great Mosque of Cordoba, in the Andalusian region of Spain, is certainly “grand’ and a definite must see.

These photos were taken in Ojai, CA, a picturesque town, 83 miles from Los Angeles. The Ojai Valley is known for unique sunsets called “pink moments.” To capture those moments, instead of looking west at the setting sun, one should look east to see its reflection on the bluffs of the Topa Topa Mountains, which for a few moments are airbrushed a Day-Glo pink. Well, much to my disappointment, the weather turned bad when we were there, and the pink effect didn’t quite happen. Instead, ominous dark clouds covered the mountains, which I found extremely dramatic and absolutely awesome. Here are a couple of the photos taken that day.

High up in the mountains of Southeast Brazil lies Ouro Preto, a former colonial mining town and UNESCOÂ World Heritage Site for its outstanding Baroque architecture. Here are some views of Ouro Preto, looking up and down the high hills and mountains around it.

These are not necessarily great shots, but they all show something unexpected…
