It was a beautiful afternoon in Santa Monica and, for some reason, there were mostly guys out there enjoying the beautiful views of the bay before sunset.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Local
What is “Local” when you live in the second-largest city in the United States, a sprawling metropolis with a population that includes people from more than 140 countries speaking 224 different languages? That’s Los Angeles, where I live. It’s hard to feel local. But I have found my spot, the place where I feel “local.” Palisades Park, in Santa Monica, is my hangout, my go-to place for long walks and many photographic endeavors. It’s a place where locals go to enjoy gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean while picnicking with family and friends, sunbathing, walking their dogs, reading, writing, or simply meditating. I have photographed it to exhaustion and will continue to do so for as long as I’m around.
Recurring Model
This was the third time I encountered the “Santa Monica Daredevil,” as I call him. It had been a while, almost a year, since I last photographed him. As usual, as I was walking around Palisades Park, with my camera at hand, he just materialized in front of me and I just kept shooting without much thinking. At first, the sun was behind him, so I shot some silhouettes. As he passed by me, I made some shots with the golden light on him and the Santa Monica beach and pier below. Next time I should go after him and ask him what’s his deal… 🙂

A Walk In The Park
Palisades Park, in Santa Monica, is where I usually go for walks, often with my camera to capture the creatures and characters who share that space. Here’s what I captured a couple days ago.

Santa Monica
At the intersection of Wilshire and Ocean boulevards in Palisades park, a statue of Santa Monica stands on a heart-shaped patch of grass. The 18-ft. high Art Deco Sculpture was sculpted in 1934 by Eugene Morahan as a Public Works of Art project and presented to the citizens of Santa Monica by the Federal Government. The statue faces Wilshire Blvd. as if welcoming visitors to the park.
