If we were to get technical, I couldn’t post anything as I don’t have photos of any of the world’s “seas.” However, since in popular language “ocean” and “sea” are used interchangeably, I will ignore that there is a difference between them and post photos of the beautiful Pacific Ocean on the California coast. 🙂
Los Angeles is known for beautiful, sunny weather, and that’s indeed what we get here most of the time. But when moving from district to district in this huge metropolis, one must be ready for changes in temperature within just a few miles, and for other unexpected changes…
The day I shot these, we had spent time in the West Hollywood/Beverly Hills areas, where the weather was sunny and pleasant. Driving back to Santa Monica, as we moved closer to the ocean, we ran into increasingly low fog that foreshadowed the creepiest-looking night one could imagine.
As far as I’m concerned, La Sagrada Familia, Antoni GaudÃ’s still unfinished cathedral in Barcelona, is the greatest masterpiece of all time. I visited it last fall and must confess I was totally unprepared for its grandeur. When I walked in and looked up, I gasped and inexplicably burst into tears! I don’t quite understand what happened. I’m not religious, nor am I prone to public displays of emotion. Yet, there I was, shedding tears in the middle of the crowd at La Sagrada Familia. I was completely overtaken with emotion by the organic beauty of Gaudi’s magnificent masterpiece. Wiping my tears, I took pictures that in no way do justice to that architectural and artistic gem.

But I found this absolutely amazing HD video of the inauguration of La Sagrada Familia, which shows it in all its splendor, every detail, every angle, inside and out. The images and the music are fantastic. They’ll make you gasp for sure. Let me know if you cry. I, of course, cried again…
Definitely my favorite time to shoot the ocean and the scenery around it. Here’s a small sample of shots taken in places I often go to in Brazil, where I was born, and in California, where I live.
What’s a companion? What is companionship? Here are a few takes on the notion.
My personal companion. My husband of thirty-plus years. The secret of our long marriage is enjoying each other and laughing a lot. This photo says it all.
Legendary companions. These craft dolls represent the Brazilian Northeast folk hero Lampião –who led a long career of large-scale banditry through six states of the Northeast– and his girlfriend, Maria Bonita. The couple was subject of innumerable folk stories, novels, comic books, popular pamphlets, songs, movies, and a number of TV soap operas.
Yesterday I went to a football/soccer game of the Confederations Cup in my hometown in Brazil. This is sort of dress rehearsal for the 2014 World Cup, which will also be hosted by Brazil. As I entered the sports arena, I saw curves everywhere. Here are some of them.
Signs can be funny, informative, deceiving, but some are plain eerie. Walking around the ocean front in Venice Beach, California, you’ll see these signs everywhere. Venice is at sea level and California is earthquake prone, so these signs are a constant reminder that a tsunami may happen any time…
Patterns are everywhere. Some are created, some form naturally. I love both kinds, but nothing is more exciting than encountering natural strong patterns, like these waves on the sand, with beautiful gold tones from the sun.
