Weekly Photo Challenge: Early Bird

This week’s challenge is Early Bird. That’s a difficult one for me because I’m always late so the whole concept of early bird escapes me. I am also a night owl, who can never bring myself to wake up in time to see the sunrise. Unless I’m jet lagged, of course, which was the case when I took these photographs from my hotel room balcony in Ravello, Italy.

Art and Architecture ~~

Today I spent the afternoon at the Getty Center, one my favorite places in Los Angeles. They are having a Turner exhibit and a couple of photography exhibits I wanted to see. Unfortunately, none of them could be photographed. One of the things I love about the Getty is its architecture, which I’ve photographed a million times but never get tired of it. Today couldn’t be any different…

Two Readers ~~ I don’t know if they were related, or if they even knew each other. They could’ve been father and son… But what really caught my attention was the fact that both were reading books! Not iPads, not Kindles, not iPhones. Books! And were so absorbed in their reading that they didn’t even notice me or anything else going on around them. What’s not to love about these two?

Giant Fig Tree~~ Beverly Hills has some of the most incredible trees you’ll ever see. That’s why it’s been recognized as Tree City USA. This giant Fig Tree is one of its treasures. It towers in all directions, with massive arterial roots that grow down from its branches. Today I spent some time there and shot a few photos of that and other trees. Will write about it in my soon to be revived “Discovering LA” blog.
