339/365 – The Color Purple?

Before I start, let me say that our neighborhood in Los Angeles seems to have been spared the furry of the recent wildfires. They may not be over, but I’m through with dealing with that. So, moving on to a much lighter subject, I read in the New York Times today that “the self-proclaimed ‘color authorities’ at Pantone sent people to blanket the globe for weeks at a time last year, searching for color signals in food, cars, cosmetics, clothes and housewares. They reconvened, pooled their findings, did their analysis and declared the color of 2018 to be … Ultra Violet.Certainly a pretty color. Let’s see if that really happens in 2018. For now, some shades of the color purple…

338/365 – L.A. on Fire

Another day of raging wildfires in California, now hitting the Los Angeles area. Today, several homes were destroyed and 700 homes were evacuated in Bel-Air, just two miles from our home. And tonight authorities are warning of potentially catastrophic winds overnight and continuing through Thursday. We could be ordered to evacuate at any time during the night if the strong winds spread the fire further south. I am exhausted from a day of worries and expectations, following the developments and preparing to leave home if needed. Hopefully it won’t happen, but we’re ready for the worst. It will be a sleepless night…

337/365 – Fire

Devastating wildfires are sweeping through California again. Back in October wildfires hit Northern California, leaving 42 people dead and destroying some 8,400 structures, including homes and businesses. Today, fast-moving fires swept into Ventura County, in Southern California, burning thousands of acres, forcing thousands of people to evacuate, and stifling surrounding counties, including Los Angeles, with smoke. I’m in Santa Monica, further South from Ventura, and while so far the fires haven’t reached us, the strong winds have brought a lot of smoke and dust to the area, making it not safe to be outside for too long. Our poor mailman was wearing a mask and complaining about the smoke. 😦

334/365 – Hamilton at the Pantages

Today we saw Hamilton for the second time. I am obsessed with this musical and can’t have enough of it. 🙂 The story, the music, and the choreography are fantastic, the work of genius. If Hamilton comes to your city, GO SEE IT! It was interesting to see how three months into their LA run, the company has gotten so much better.  Apparently, coming from a run in a smaller theater in San Francisco, the performers were shocked by the sheer size of the Pantages Theater, in Hollywood. It is much more challenging to perform in such a large venue (2,703 seats), packed to capacity, with a very enthusiastic audience. Today’s performance was phenomenal and I was delighted to have gone again. The photos below are not of the show (no photography allowed), but rather of the beautiful Pantages theater, a stunning Art Deco building from the 1930s. My iPhone photos don’t do it justice (they won’t allow “professional” cameras into the premises), but you can still see the beauty of the palatial building. So, enjoy the show! 😉
